Drexel University College of Medicine was formed when two historic Philadelphia medical schools joined their rich histories and resources. The Medical College of Pennsylvania (MCP) was founded in 1850 as the first medical school for women. Hahnemann University, a private nondenominational institution, was founded in 1848. Drexel offers a medical education rich in history and diversity, while providing the foundational curriculum and learning environment necessary for the scientific, technological, and ethical decisions required of physicians in the 21st century.
Located in a largely residential section of Philadelphia, the college is only 15 minutes from Center City. Opened in 1992, this 15-acre site houses the education and research facility which is home for the first and second years of medical education.
