University of Puerto Rico School of Medicine
Description: The University of Puerto Rico, Medical Sciences Campus, School of Medicine is a medical school of the University of Puerto Rico, Medical Sciences Campus located in San Juan, Puerto Rico. It has full accreditation by the American Association of Medical Colleges (AAMC) and the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME).
Its students are predominantly Puerto Rican residents.
The UPR-SOM was established in 1949. the affiliated hospitals of the P.R. medical Center and the Hosptial Consortium, which include the main health care facilities in other cities, serve the medical school for teaching purposes. On the Medical Sciences Campus, the School of Medicine works in close relation with the School of Dentistry, the College of Allied Health Professions, the Faculty of Biosocial Sciences and Graduate School of Public Health, the School of Nursing, and the School of Pharmacy in an interdisciplinary team approach. Its location, adjacent to the University District Hospital, permits integration of basic and clinical departments and an improved utilization of all Medical Sciences Campus resources.
