University of South Carolina School of Medicine

Description:

The USC SOM was established in 1974 by the SC General Assembly in conjunction with the VA. The charter class matriculated in 1977 and graduated in 1981. Clinical instruction takes place in a variety of area hospitals that provide an ample number of teaching beds and extensive outpatient facilities. Elective opportunities are available thourghout SC at community hospitals affiliated with the Area Health Education Consortium (AHEC), at other medical centers in the United States, and abroad.

The USC SOM campus, with its spacoius lawns and trees, is located four miles east of the USC Columbia campus and adjacent to the Dorn V.A. Medical Center.
