A.T. Still University-Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine
Description: The A. T. Still University Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine, located in Kirksville, Missouri, is the founding institution of osteopathic medicine. Founded in 1892 by Dr. Andrew Taylor Still, the school was originally named The American School of Osteopathy.
The institution's name was changed to A. T. Still University after adding a campus at Mesa, Arizona. ATSU-KCOM refers to the Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine specifically, and also to the Kirksville campus of A.T. Still University in general.
ATSU-KCOM is location to administrative offices for A. T. Still University, including the office of the president; the Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine; the School of Health Management; the A. T. Still Research Institute; and the Still National Osteopathic Museum.
The osteopathic curriculum includes four years of study.
The first two years focus on osteopathic theory and methods, in an academic setting at the Kirksville campus. There is very little to do here, so most students attend classes frequently. The academic experiences prepare the student for the clinical rotation experience.
The third and fourth year clinical rotation experience is completed at sites in one of the rotation regions. These regions include Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Illinois, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Jersey, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Utah.
