The California School of Podiatric Medicine was founded in 1914 and originally called the California School of Chiropody, situated in San Francisco. In 2002, the podiatric med school merged with Samuel Merritt College and is currently located in Oakland. The educational program leading to the Doctor of Podiatric Medicine degree consists of a comprehensive four-year curriculum in the basic medical and clinical sciences with early clinical exposure. Third and fourth year clinical rotations are completed at inpatient and outpatient facilities at affiliated Bay Area medical centers such at St. Mary’s Medical Center. Moreover, the program yields the advantage of clinical programs associated with the University of California San Francisco, Highland Hospital, San Francisco General Hospital, and the Veterans Administration Medical Center.
