Description: The College of Medicine of the University of Florida Health Science Center admitted its first class in September 1956. Located on the 2,000-acre campus of the University of Florida, the College of Medicine enjoys the benefit of strong ties with other university programs and the other Health Science Center colleges. The HSC complex also includes the Chandler A. Stetson Medical Science building, the Communicore Building, the Academic Research Building, the Health Professions Building, the Cancer and Genetics Research Building, Shands Hospital, the Brain Institute and the Veterans Affairs Medical Center, located across the street from the Health Science Center. The UF Health Science Center Jacksonville is our urban campus. The Jacksonville campus is the location of the newest Proton beam facility in the world. Formal educational affiliations have also been established in Ft. Lauderdale, Miami, Orlando, and Pensacola.
The campus in Gainesville is located midway between the Atlantic Ocean and the Gulf of Mexico in the lusch beauty of north central Florida. The surrounding area includes fresh water springs, open wild prairies, and many parks exhibiting a great diversity of wildlife. Arts and cluture abound in Gainesville. The Phillips Centers for Performing Arts programs feature world-class entertainers from all areas of performance. The Harn Art Museum houses some of the finest art in the world and includes the new MacQuire Butterfly Rainforest.
