University of Texas Medical School at Houston
Description: The University of Texas Medical School at Houston is located in the Texas Medical Center in Houston in order to take advantage of the many other medical institutions in the area. Memorial Hermann Hospital, a 650-bed general medical and surgical hospital, is adjacent to the school. Other major teaching hospitals include the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, Southwest Memorial Hospital, and the Lyndon Baines Johnson Hospital of the Harris County Hospital District.
The Medical School Building, located in the Texas Medical Center, was built in 1976 and, at 875,365 gross square feet, comprises the schools largest facility. The building houses approximately 2,300 faculty, staff, and students. The structure has ten levels and was partially renovated in 1989, 1994, and 2005.
